In extremely tough conditions, all our athletes ran excellently. 11 athletes in total qualified for the Leinster Cross Country Championships. In the Minor Girls Ella Hayes finished 5th and Emily Eiffe 14th. The Junior Girls took the overall team title, an outstanding achievement. This team consisted of Orla Reidy (3rd), Kirsten Monaghan

The Leinster Schools Cross Country was held in Santry and in extremely competitive races our athletes ran excellently. Basketball

Maynooth Education Campus competes in the Secondary Schools Association Dublin League each year. Teams are divided into first year, second year, under 16’s and under 19’s. Last year we had huge success with our first and second year teams. Our second years reached the premier league semi-final, and our first-year team were narrowly defeated by two free shots in the last seven seconds of the game. We are already looking forward to next season, the future is bright! All new players welcome, keep an eye on the sports noticeboard for details about training.

Equestrian Team

Maynooth Education Campus has been well represented again this year as the number of students has more than doubled in the Interschool’s Equestrian Competition. Open and Novice teams competed regularly, comprising of the following students: Zoe Power,

Well

done to the dedicated parents who transport their children and ponies to shows.

GAA Gaelic Football, Hurling & Camogie

GAA

At Maynooth Education Campus we have a very strong tradition of GAA. We have teams in Gaelic Football, Hurling, Ladies Football and Camogie at each of the following age groups: First Years, Under 14s, Under 16s and Senior level. Our teams compete in Kildare, Dublin and Leinster competitions. Our training facilities are located at Moyglare pitches and are shared in partnership with Maynooth GAA club. All training is co-ordinated by a very dedicated staff group on a voluntary basis.

In recent years, we have been very successful winning various competitions most notably winning the Dublin Senior A football championship in 2012, 2013 and 2017.

At Maynooth Education Campus we believe that participation in GAA is in the interest of students' development and can give them a great sense of confidence and belief within the school community.

Hurling

Last year, the Maynooth Education Campus competed with distinction in the Dublin Colleges Competitions in hurling. The school entered teams at Juvenile (U14 1/2) Junior (U16 1/2) and Senior (U18 1/2). The teams were highly competitive in all grades. The senior team had a solid campaign, eventually bowing out at the quarter final stage of the contest, to Portmarnock CC. The Junior team went a step further and lost a titanic struggle to eventual winners, Scoil Chaitríona. Our Juvenile team came within a whisker of bringing home silverware, as they lost out in the Dublin Colleges final to near neighbours, Salesians, by a solitary score. This year, we'll hope to take the final step and bring home hurling silverware to MEC.

Rugby

MEC Rugby

Boys Rugby

Boys rugby has been offered in the school since 2004 when the first junior rugby team was established. This team went on to win the Leinster Junior Section A Development cup in its very first year. This team grew to form the first senior rugby team in the school which also managed a great achievement in its first year by winning the Leinster Senior Section A Shield. Since then school rugby has only grown and with help from school staff and Youth Development Officers from the local rugby clubs of Barnhall and North Kildare. Rugby has been firmly established as a popular sport within the school enjoying many successes. The most recent success being the junior rugby team’s success in 2014/15 year which saw them lift the Leinster B Duff Cup.

Junior boy’s rugby is offered from 2nd year and 3rd year students and some Transition Year students depending on their dates of birth. Senior boy’s rugby is offered from transition up 6th year. Students may have years of experience or none at all. All of them are welcome to join the teams. Training is usually held once a week after school.

Ladies Rugby

Ladies rugby has been in the school since 2006. Emma Codd in 6th year is the Women’s Ambassador for Ireland for the Women’s Rugby World Cup. Many members of the team last year were chosen to be ball girls for the New Zealand versus Canada test match last year in Donnybrook.

Womens’ Rugby World Cup Trophy Visit

On Tuesday, 28th March, MEC was proud to be nominated as a host school for the Women's Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour. The Trophy arrived early in the morning and settled down in the school library to be admired and viewed by the students of

MPP & MCC. Several classes and staff were welcomed visitors to the Trophy Tour. The event went very well and special thanks must be given to the Girls’ Presentation School for allowing some of their pupils the opportunity of having their picture taken with the Trophy. Special thanks also to Emma Codd and Emelia Deane (IRFU Women's Ambassadors) and Ms O'Hagan for all their tireless work in organising the event.

Soccer

Maynooth Post Primary School soccer teams have expanded greatly in recent times after a significant number of years when the school didn’t have a soccer team. The school now has both boys and girl’s teams competing across all year groups.

The School’s most recent success came in 2014 when the schools senior team won the Midlands League and went on to be narrowly defeated on penalties in the Leinster Final. Many teams have come close to replicating this success in recent years and we are hopeful of more success soon.

Ladies Soccer

Maynooth Education campus boasts a number of Girls’ soccer teams. In 2016/2017 our U19 side reached the semi-final of the Senior League, while the U17 team reached the quarter-finals. The U15 soccer team reached the last 16 in the FAI Cup, coming across a very strong Kilkenny team that went on to win the U15 FAI All-Ireland. We also had our first MCC 1st Year team and a 1st Year MPPS who both entered the league.
