The Maynooth U-16 hurlers travelled to play St.Brigid’s Castleknock on 12/10/10.
In the first half Maynooth had the benefit of having the sun on their backs but as god gives with one hand he takes with another as the lads had the wind against them. Castleknock used this to their advantage and were quick to put two points over the bar. As the game progressed a change in tactics saw Andrew Mc Court taking the puck outs. With these reaching beyond to the half way line Castleknock came under more pressure than previously. Phillip Murphy was the first Maynooth hurler to utilise this as he and Paul Mescal fired consecutive points over the bar bringing Maynooth back into the game. Following this, hard work from Ciaran Broderick, putting pressure on the Castleknock keeper secured Maynooth a first goal. In the end however this was not enough as Castleknock were very competent in scoring themselves. So Maynooth lost their final game in the group and with it lost any chances of progressing into the quarter final stages.
