Under 16 Hurling Match Maynooth Vs. Cabra The Maynooth lads put up a spirited display against Cabra on the 20/9/2010 but unfortunately fell short of a victory. Cabra’s superior defending was the telling difference in the sides and in particular cabra’s centre half back who hindered every Maynooth attack. Our lads could not be faulted for effort and determination where we more than matched our opponents. Cabra opened the scoring putting five points on the score board but a quick response from Phillip Murphy and Alex Birchill matched their scores from dead ball situations. At half time the boys were down by 8 points, but entered the second half ready to close the gap. The Maynooth defence, Adam Nevin and Darren Maguire, put up a good fight, and the goalie Fergal Stack saved four goal chances. A goal from Alex Birchill saw the gap close. Maynooth were just getting into their stride with Conor Coyle and Phillip Murphy’s close efforts, both of which only scraping wide of the post. Unfortunately time ran out for the boys and the match ended at 2-15 to 2-7in Cabra’s favour. It was a very encouraging display by the lads and the mentors were very happy with the attitude and performance of the team. Maynooth Team:
