Senior Hurling Match Maynooth V Tallaght 4 - 8 2 – 5 On September 23rd the Maynooth senior boys travelled to the Thomas Davis astro turf pitch in Tallaght to play Tallaght. The beginning of the match was a struggle for Maynooth as Tallaght struck a quick two point lead. It wasn’t long until Maynooth’s Cian Forde got a point on the board which was soon followed by his goal getting Maynooth back on track. Following this were some great saves made by Maynooth’s goalkeeper Sean Bean who kept his side on course alongside some outstanding defensive displays and cleared almost every ball that came their way. Maynooth also scored two 65’s in the first half. Tallaght got an lucky goal (high ball in which was unfortunately a goalkeeping misjudgement and landed in the back o the net). This resulted in the half time score, Maynooth 1-3 to Tallaght’s 1-2. So Maynooth started the second half with a tight one point lead. After an exhausting performance Mr. Dalton gave the lads a very encouraging talk and they were soon up on their feet ready for the second half. In the second half, a red card was issued to a Tallaght player for an off-ball foul against Sean Higgins. Neil Delaney was fortunate to score two great goals. Philly Murphy scored three great points all from a very tight angle inside the twenty-one metre line. In the last five minutes Hughie Faherty blocked the Tallaght’s keeper’s failed clearance and managed to score another goal. The whistle was blown and Maynooth had secured a win.
