Electrical Re-cycling
The Transition Year pupils of Class 26D of Maynooth Post Primary organised a collection of all old house-hold electrical goods to be recycled free of charge, in conjunction with WEEE Ireland. Boxes were left in Aldi car park and local schools where contacted and our own staff were informed.
Can Be Recycled
Small Radios, Mobile Phones/Chargers, Handheld Tools, Walkmans, Hair Dryers,
Video Consoles, Irons, Old Remote Controls, Electric Razors, Torches, Toasters...
Cannot Be Recycled
Paints or Solvents, Litter, Packaging, Clothes, Large Appliances, Green Waste, Fridges, Washing Machines, and other Bulky House Hold Goods.
Did You Know?
- Did you know that, in Ireland, you can no longer dispose of IT equipment in the bin, in a skip, or at your local waste tip?
- Recycling aluminium uses 95% less energy than making it from raw ore, creates 95% less air pollution and 97% less water pollution.
- Using recycled material to produce new plastic products uses just two-thirds of the energy required to manufacture it from raw materials.
- Virtually every electrical household item from hairdryers to fridges can be recycled.
- By recycling the plastic casing of a computer, the required energy to manufacture a new casing is reduced by two-thirds, water use reduced by 85% and sulpher dioxide is reduced by two-thirds.
