Japanese Leaving Certificate Ordinary and Higher Levels The Leaving Certificate Japanese syllabus is based on the common syllablus framework for the teaching and examining of French, German, Spanish and Italian. Japanese has the same points allocation as other subjects and it fulfills the modern language requirements for matriculaton. The syllabus is based on the communicative approach, promoting the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The students will gain basic communicative proficiency so as to enable them to take a full part in classroom activities conducted in the target language and to be able to converse and write abot a broad range of everyday interactions and topics. The students also study the present day culture associated with Japan and the Japanese. Everyday life in Japan, education, the arts and entertainments, the range and role of the mass media are some of the topic areas. We compare and contrast how such issues present themselves in Ireland today.
