Construction Studies Construction Studies is mostly, the theoretical study of how to build a house from the very start to completion. It takes in topics such as planning permission, site layout, digging and pouring foundations, building walls, instaling roofs. Incorperated into these topics are how windows, doors, chimneys, water supply and sewerage works are built into a house. Other topics are heat retention, concrete, envoirnmental impact, health & safety and modern alternative methods of construction such as concrete framed or timber framed housing. Course Content: Project: Students are expected to submit a project of their choice which they make in class, and only in class. This can be a piece of furniture, something related to building e.g. door, stairs, plumbing project, electrical project, or a model of a building or part of a building. The project is acommpanied by a portfolio detailing how the project was researched & put together, and is 25% of the Subject. The submision date for this project is usually around the Middle of April. Practical: This consists of a four hour practical exam taken before June in which the students are required to make a small project, from the previously unseen plans they recieve at the start of the exam.
