Design & Communication Graphics
Design & Communication Graphics (DCG) is the revised leaving certificate course, formally known as Technical Drawing. It is a subject which increases the pupil's understanding of design graphics already started at junior certificate level in Technical Graphics. The subject explores in greater detail topics such as orthographic projection, axonometric projection, ellipses & auxiliary projection, as well as introducing new topics to pupils such as interpenetration, mining geometry, surface geometry, oblique planes, sections, cycloids and exploded views. The subject in graded in 2 parts. 40% for a project usually completed early in the year, such as before Easter. The project is along the lines of designing, amending or improving an object, draw it on computer as well as sketches & hand made drawings & built up literature on your piece. The rest of the marks, 60%, are awarded for the day exam in June, completed by hand, on sheets, consisting of the topics listed earlier. The day exam lasts 3 Hours.
