The Amber Flag is a programme which has been developed by Pieta House to recognize the work being done in a multitude of environments to promote positive mental health in our communities. Our school was awarded the amber flag originally in 2019 as a joint MEC initiative and then again in 2022.
Our committee was formed at the beginning of the school year this year and comprises of five teachers and fourteen students. We decided that our focus for the year would be around antibullying. We worked on a new antibullying policy, organised the school’s first antibullying week which included a variety of activities for students including internet safety talks, workshops for students and a bake sale on the Thursday where we raised €373.60 for Pieta House.
We found out on 11 May 2023 that we had been awarded our Amber Flag again and we are so proud of the work we have done. We look forward to building on this progress in the coming academic year and growing the positive atmosphere around mental health in our school that we work so hard to achieve.
