‘Winter Writing Competition’ Winners

A big thank you from the English Department to all those who took part in our ‘Winter Writing Competition.’ Great imagination and superb descriptive writing skills were displayed across the board.

Congratulations to 6th Year student Aisling Doherty-Madrigal who placed first in the senior category. Aisling produced a realistic and hard hitting depiction of a young homeless man dealing with the social stigma of homelessness and the redemptive kindness found within our community.

Well done also to 3rd year student Ryan Townshend who won first place in the Junior Cycle category. Ryan wrote a vivid and gritty narrative short story, which re imagined the Christmas Truce, 1914. Both winners received an Easons voucher and both short stories are published on our website. Submissions can be recollected from Rita at reception with some feedback.

In the New Year, our nation will mark the 100th anniversary of the Irish War of Independence. Stay tuned for a cross curricular writing competition which will encourage our students to explore our nation’s turbulent birth!
